Match report

A dismal first half condemned Howden to an embarrassing defeat at South Hunsley this past weekend. The MinsterMen were left chasing the game after going 3-0 down within the first half. Howden's second defeat on the bounce leaves the MinsterMen in a worrying position after 5 games.
Holt was forced into changes as Wagstaff and J.Boardman were unavailable, Adam Bell made his first start since Driffield away. Holliday also returned in goal in place of the absent S.Gorman. Hutchinson, Ramsden and Stevens filled up the bench for the travelling party.
Howden couldn't get to grips with the game in the opening, failing to retain possession, Hessle were pushing onto Howden with relative ease. A few early half chances weren't taken by the home side but the warning signs were there. Gorman and Rothery looked for possible counter attacks up front but Hessle dominated the opening twenty minutes.
Howden fell behind after a long throw was headed in with ease, after a miscommunication in the defence. Howden's back four had done well to keep Hessle at bay until that point. More pressure piled on and the second soon came. As Andrew cleared, he appeared to be the victim of a late lunge. The referee was having none of it and as the Hessle midfielder picked up the half clearance, the channel was free. The striker raced clear and put the second past Howden in 5 minutes.
Again, more lackadaisical play allowed Hessle to grab a third with a twenty yard strike that caught Holliday out. The lack of ball retention was giving Howden all types of problems. With five minutes to go Howden did manage to string passes together. Built up from Butterill at the back, Rothery linked up with the Bell Brothers and Smith. Gorman was on hand to tap home at the back post to give the visitors a somewhat undeserved goal.
The MinsterMen came out a totally different outfit the second half. The midfield retained the ball, the defence found time and space to pick a pass and Howden looked like a side with a point to prove. Gorman managed to get his second of the afternoon and put Howden back into the game, the whole side was lifted.
Chris Ramsden entered the action for Adam Bell. The MinsterMen still couldn't find the leveller but their play was much better. Luke Oldridge was playing an important role in midfield but with 15 minutes to go, Holt replaced Oldridge and Munday with Hutchinson and Stevens. Switching to three at the back as per last week, however this time the move failed to work. Howden soon found themselves behind further as Hessle overloaded a counter attack and the striker bagged his second of the afternoon. Straight from the restart Howden gave the ball away and it didn't take Hessle long to regain the three goal lead. The clash ended and Howden got what they deserved.
"We all made some poor mistakes today, myself included. As a team, we were nowhere near good enough". said Holt post match. "We learn from this and come out fighting at Home next weekend". Howden host Little Weighton in already a "must-win" clash. Luke Oldridge (pictured) was awarded man of the match.
